Brooks Beast Cas Loxsom Smashes 600-Meter World Record

Brooks Beast Casimir (Cas) Loxsom broke the 600-meter run indoor world record over the weekend at the Penn State National meet with a display of commanding athleticism and a heightened caliber for competition. Cas’ time of 1 minute, 14.91 seconds shatters his own American record (1:15.33) as well as the world record, set just eight days prior to his race by Emmanuel Korir (1:14.97).

“Regardless of the season or event, there is something special about being the only person to ever do something. I’m extremely excited with the accolade!” Cas said. “I was thrilled that I was able to close fast. It means my strength is in a great spot, and it should translate over to more success this year.”

Cas’ world record performance at his alma mater kicked off the 2017 racing calendar for the Beasts, eight of whom competed in the same weekend in races across the country. Team rookie Baylee Mires set a personal record in the indoor 800, lowering her previous 2:06 to 2:04 at the University of Washington Invitational.

The Brooks Beasts compete next at the Millrose Games on Feb. 11. Cas and teammate Katie Mackey will go on to run in the IAAF Müller Indoor Grand Prix on Feb. 18.
