ASICS Roadhawk FF 2 | First Look

ASICS Roadhawk FF 2 Men’s Sample (subject to change)

Available August 2018 – MSRP $99.95

Last June, ASICS added a brand new model to their arsenal of lightweight trainers, the ASICS Roadhawk FF. Its affordability, lightweight design, and seamless construction made it an attractive model for runners looking for a simple trainer that could be used for a variety of runs and paces.

This August, ASICS aims to cater to the same runners who enjoyed the original Roadhawk while making some big updates to the midsole and upper.

Midsole

Currently, the ASICS Roadhawk FF 2 is the only model to feature a midsole made entirely of ASICS’s new Flytefoam Propel material. When compared to the original Flytefoam material, Flytefoam Propel is supposed to provide a softer feel when standing in the shoe and an even bouncier sensation while running.

Outsole

The ASICS Roadhawk FF 2 features ASICS AHARPLUS outsole material which resists abrasion about three times as much as their conventional rubber. To put it simply, the rubber found in the heel of the Roadhawk FF 2 is the most durable rubber currently offered by ASICS.

Throughout the rest of the Roadhawk’s outsole, less durability is required so you will find a blown rubber which ASICS refers to as their DuraSponge outsole. Blown rubber is a rubber expanded or mixed with air during the production process. This creates a lighter, softer outsole that is less durable than its AHAR counterpart.

Upper

The previous version of the Roadhawk uses a combination of open mesh in the heel and midfoot with an engineered mesh in the forefoot. This helped the original Roadhawk adapt to more foot shapes and sizes in the forefoot while providing a nice lockdown in the heel and midfoot.

The Roadhawk FF 2 has an open mesh throughout the upper meaning it will likely be less stretchy and therefore accommodate fewer foot shapes and widths. However, breathability shouldn’t be a problem as the open mesh used on the Roadhawk FF 2 has fairly large holes especially in the top of the forefoot where hot air likes to escape.
